2、kindofphenomenologythatcanbeusefultotheologywillbeahermeneuticalphenomenology,onethattakesusbeyondtheCartesian/Husserlianidealofpresuppositionlessintuition.Itwillalsobeaphenomenologyofinverseinten-tionality,oneinwhichtheconstitutingsubjectisconstitutedbythelookandthevoiceofan
3、other.Inlightofthesesuggestions,thephenomenologyofJean-LucMarionisdefendedagainstthreecritiques,namelythatitcompromisestheboundarybetweenphenomenologyandtheology,thatthetheologyitservesisabadonetoboot,andthatithasaninadequateaccountofthesubject.AttheheartofthisdefenseisMarion
4、scleardistinctionbetweenphenomenologyasadescriptionofpossibleexperience,andtheologyastheclaimthatacertainkindofexperience,namelyrevelationorepiphany,isnotmerelyactualbutveridical.Phenomenologysays,Ifrevelationoccursitwillbeintheformofasaturatedphenomenon.Theologysays,forexamp
5、le,theburningbushwasanepiphany,orJesusChristisarevelation.TheattentivereadershouldhavenotroubledistinguishingMarionsphenomenologicalanalyses,whichshouldbepersua-sivetobelieverandunbelieveralike,fromhistheologicalclaims.Marionsaccountofthesubjectfallsundertheheadingofinversein
