4、ttle——aspacecraftthatcouldbeusedforseveraljourneys.ThefirstshuttlefightintospacewastheColumbia——launchedfromtheKennedySpaceCentreon12thApril,1981,.Theaimofthisflightwastotestthenewshuttlesystem,togosafelyupintoorbitandtoreturntotheEarthforasafelanding.Itwasasuccessandalittlemorethan
5、adecadeafterApollo11`shistoricvoyage,theColumbiamadeasafe,controlled,aeroplane-stylelandinginCalifornia.Thiswasthestartofanewageofspacetravel.BythetimetheChallengertookoffin1986,theworldseemedtohavelostitsfearandwonderattheamazingachievementofpeoplegoingtobeaspecialflightandsomillio
