2、theemitterlocationfromaninitialdeterminationoftheangle-of-arrival(AOA).Radiodirectionfindingtechniqueshaveclassicallybeenbasedonmultiple-antennasystemsemployingmultiplereceivers.ClassictechniquessuchasMUSIC[1][2]andESPRITusesimultaneousphaseinformationfromeachantennatoestimatethe

3、angle-of-arrivalofthesignalofinterest.Inmanyscenarios(e.g.,hand-heldsystems),however,multiplereceiversareimpractical.Thus,singlechanneltechniquesareofinterest,particularlyinmobilescenarios.AlthoughtheamountofexistingresearchforsinglechannelDFisconsiderablylessthanformulti-channel

4、directionfinding,singlechanneldirectionfindingtechniqueshavebeenpreviouslyinvestigated.Whenconsideringsinglechanneldirectionfindingsystems,wefindthattherearetwodistincttypesofDFsystems.ThefirsttypeofDFsystemistheamplitude-basedDFsystem.Amplitude-basedsystemsdeterminethebearingoft

5、hesignal(ortheAOA)byanalyzingtheamplitudesoftheoutputvoltagesfromeachantennaelement.AmplitudeDFsystemsincludetheWatson-WatttechniqueusinganAdcockantennaarray.ThesecondtypeofDFsystemisthephase-basedDFsystem.Phase-basedsystemsusethreeormoreantennaelementsthatareconfiguredinawaysoth

6、attherelativephasesoftheiroutputvoltagesareuniqueforeverywavefrontangle-of-arrival.Phase-basedDFsystemsincludethePseudo-Dopplertechniquewithacommutativeswitchbasedantennaarray.Sincebothoftheabovetechniquesareprimarilyanalogtechniquesandhavebeenanalyzedinpreviouswork,wewillinvesti

7、gateanewsinglechanneldirectionfindingtechniquethattakesspecificadvantageofdigitalcapabilities.Specifically,weproposeaphase-basedmethodthatusesabankofPhase-LockedLoops(PLLs)incombinationwithaneight-elementcirculararray.OurmethodissimilartothePseudo-Dopplermethodinthatitsamplesante
