4、inemodelofcoloncancerrequiresaninvasiveprocedureinvolvingcecalinjectionofcoloncancercellsandthereforelimitstheabilitytoperformimmu-nologicalstudiessubsequenttocecalresections.Materialsandmethods.Murinecoloncancer(CT26)cellswereinjectedsubmucosallyintothedistal,p

5、os-teriorrectumofBALB/cmice.Carewastakennottopasstransmurallyintothepelviccavity.Differentmagnifications(10؋versus100؋)wereusedforinjec-tion,andprimarytumorgrowthandmetastaticdis-easewerestudied.Results.Intheinitialstudy,3/7miceinjectedusing10؋magnificationshadnot

6、able,largetumororiginat-ingfromtherectalwall,andhistologyrevealedthatallexcisedtumorswerepoorlydifferentiatedadeno-carcinoma.Inthesecondstudy,8/10miceinjectedus-ing100؋magnificationshadnotabletumororiginat-ingfromtherectalwell,and4/8micehadabnormallungtissuewithp

7、athologicalevidenceofhemorrhagicpulmonaryedema.Theuseof10؋magnificationre-sultedin43%tumortake.Insharpcontrast,80%tumortakewasobservedwith100؋magnification.Theover-allsuccessoftumortakewas65%usingthetrans-analrectalinjectionmodel.Conclusions.Ourmodifiedorthotopicmu
