2、n,on-siteexperimentsguidedbythestatisticaloptimizationmethodsareoftennecessarytoachievetheoptimumoperatingconditions.Thisstudyproposesanewconstrainedoptimizationprocedureusingartificialneuralnetworksasmodelsfortargetprocesses.Informationanalysisbased
3、onrandomsearch,fuzzyc-meanclustering,andminimizationofinformationfreeenergyisperformediterativelyintheproceduretosuggestthelocationoffutureexperiments,whichcangreatlyreducethenumberofexperimentsneeded.Theeffectivenessoftheproposedprocedureinsearching
4、optimaisdemonstratedbythreecasestudies:(1)abench-markproblem,namelyminimizationofthemodifiedHimmelblaufunctionunderacircleconstraint;(2)bothminimizationofNOxandCOemissionsandmaximizationofthermalefficiencyforasimulatedcombustionprocessofaboiler;(3)ma
5、ximizationofthermalefficiencywithinNOxandCOemissionlimitsforthesamecombustionprocess.ThesimulatedcombustionprocessisbasedonacommercialsoftwarepackageCHEMKIN,where78chemicalspeciesand467chemicalreactionsrelatedtothecombustionmechanismareincorporatedan
