4、naswellasaculturalone.Inasense,withoutproperapplicationofeuphemism,communicationwouldbeimpossible.Euphemismhasbecomeoneofthemajorsubjectsofcross-culturalstudiesaspeoplecometorealizethesignificanceofeuphemism.Therefore,Englishteachersshouldpayattentiontoeuphemismteachingsoastoimprovestudents'

5、cross-culturalawarenessandcommunicativecompetence.InChina,asfaraseuphemismteachingisconcerned,therearenomonographsortreatises.ToseehowwellthestudentshavegraspedEnglisheuphemism,asurveywasconductedamong28collegestudentswhoenrolledinJiangsuUniversity.Thedatawascollectedbytheresearcherandanalyz

6、edbySPSS10.0forwindows.Theresultsrevealthat(1)ThesexualdifferenceintheperceptionofEnglisheuphemismisnotsignificant.(2)TheEFLlearnerscangrasptheEnglisheuphemismwell.(3)TheEnglishproficiencyhassomerelationshipwiththeperceptionofEnglisheuphemismTheresultsindicatethatthemajorityofthesubjectshave

7、properawarenessandcommunicationcompetenceinvariousdegrees.Theydoespeciallywellincategory1butnotverywellincategory2.IhopethattheresultsofmyresearchwillbehelpfultocollegeEnglishteachersinmotivatingtheirstudents.Butitshouldbeadmittedthattherearesomeco
