3、andcoursesserveasanunfailingsourceofknowledgeandinspirationinmyfuturestudy.Finally,Iwouldliketotakethisopportunitytoshowmygratitudetomyfriendswhohavefaithfullysupportedmeineveryway.28ABSTRACTEuphemism,whichisfrequentlyusedinbothEnglishandChinese,isalinguisticphenomenonaswellasaculturalone.Inas

4、ense,withoutproperapplicationofeuphemism,communicationwouldbeimpossible.Euphemismhasbecomeoneofthemajorsubjectsofcross-culturalstudiesaspeoplecometorealizethesignificanceofeuphemism.Therefore,Englishteachersshouldpayattentiontoeuphemismteachingsoastoimprovestudents'cross-culturalawarenessandco

5、mmunicativecompetence.InChina,asfaraseuphemismteachingisconcerned,therearenomonographsortreatises.ToseehowwellthestudentshavegraspedEnglisheuphemism,asurveywasconductedamong28collegestudentswhoenrolledinJiangsuUniversity.ThedatawascollectedbytheresearcherandanalyzedbySPSS10.0forwindows.Theresu

6、ltsrevealthat(1)ThesexualdifferenceintheperceptionofEnglisheuphemismisnotsignificant.(2)TheEFLlearnerscangrasptheEnglisheuphemismwell.(3)TheEnglishproficiencyhassomerelationshipwiththeperceptionofEnglisheuphemismTheresultsindicatethatthemajorityofthesubjectshaveproperawarenessandcommunicationc

7、ompetenceinvariousdegrees.Theydoespeciallywellincategory1butnotverywellincategory2.IhopethattheresultsofmyresearchwillbehelpfultocollegeEnglishteachersinmotivatingtheirstudents.Butitshouldbeadmittedthattherearesomeconstraintsandlimitati
