2、tovocabularylearningbegantogrowinappliedlinguisticsandincreasinglyhasbecomeafocusofmuchresearchatpresent.Theroleofvocabularymemorizinghaschangedcompletely,asMaiguashca(1993)statedthatthestudyofvocabularyhaschangedfrombeingthe“poorrelation”ofsecondlanguageeducatio
3、ninthepastintotheroleof“guestofhonor”atpresent.Theresearchershaveattachedgreatimportancetovocabularywiththeenhancementofthestatusofvocabularylearning.Wilkins(1972)(citedfromLessard-Clouston1996),forexample,pointedout“whilewithoutgrammarverylittlecanbeconveyed,wit
4、houtvocabularynothingcanbeconveyed”.KrashenandTerrell(1983)alsoclearlyindicated“vocabularyisofprimeconcerninL2settingsbecauseitplaysadominantroleinclassroomsuccess”.Inaword,itisobviousnowthatthegoodgraspofalargenumberofwordsisanessentialcomponentofsecondlanguagea
5、cquisitionandlearners,therefore,mustmasterlargevocabulariesinordertogetagoodproficiencyinsecondlanguagelearning.1.2.NecessityofVocabularyMemorizingStrategiesWiththetendencyofglobalizationandChina’sentryintotheWTO,thesignificantroleofEnglishhasbecomemoreevident.At
6、thesametime,Englishvocabularymemorizingplaysaveryimportantrolein“howtolearnEnglish”well.FormostChineselearners,Englishvocabularyhasalwaysbeentheirtopconcernaswellastheirbigheadacheonwhichtheyspendalotoftime.InordertohelpthemstudyEnglishvocabularymoreeffectivelyan
7、defficiently,itisnecessarytoexplorelearningstrategiestheyactuallyuseintheirEnglishvocabularylearningprocess.Oxford（1990）,oneoftheleadingresearchersinthelanguagelearningstrategiesfield,indicatedthat:(1)Strategiesaretoolsforactive,self-directedinvolvement,whichises
