3、tive:howadiplomaticspokespersontriesormanagestoreducefacethreateningsymmetrically.Thewriterfirstmakesasurveyofdocumentsavailable,briefingthepresentstudyonthediplomaticlanguagefieldaswellasintroducingthemaintheoriesinpragmaticstudy,includingpragmaticambiguity,CooperativePrincipl
4、e,PolitenessPrinciple,faceandpolitenessstrategy,aswellastheshortcomingsandlimitationsofthesetheoriesinvolvingtheGrice’sCooperativePrinciple,Leech’sPolitenessPrinciple,BrownandLevinson’sFaceSavingTheory.Thenthewriterimplementsthefullanalysisofthecharacteristicsofthediplomaticlan
5、guagefromsuchanglesasthedefinitionsofdiplomacy,theregister,therepresentationandthedirectionofthetalkexchangeindiscourse,showingthatindirectnessistheimportantstrategyfordiplomaticlanguage.Throughtheillustrationsandanalysis,thewriterpointsoutthatnegotiationanddialogueareplayingsu
