4、eacquisitionistheprocessbywhichhumansacquirethecapacitytoperceiveandcomprehendlanguage,aswellastoproduceandusewordstocommunicate.Thecapacitytoacquireanduselanguageisakeyaspectthatdistinguisheshumansfromotherorganisms.Althoughitisdifficulttopindownwhataspectsoflanguageareuniquelyh
5、uman,thereareafewdesignfeaturesthatcanbefoundinallknownformsofhumanlanguage,butthataremissingfromformsofanimalcommunication.Forexample,manyanimalsareabletocommunicatewitheachotherbysignalingtothethingsaroundthem,butthiskindofcommunicationlacksthearbitrarinessofhumanvocabularies(i
6、nthatthereisnothingaboutthesoundoftheword"dog"thatwouldhintatitsmeaning).Otherformsofanimalcommunicationmayutilizearbitrarysounds,butareunabletocombinethosesoundsindifferentwaystocreatecompletelynovelmessagesthatareautomaticallyunderstoodbyanother.Itiscrucialtotheunderstandingofh
