5、tioninaparticularsociety.Goodenough’sdefinition(1957,p.167):“asociety’scultureconsistsofwhateveritisonehastoknoworbelieveinordertooperateinamanneracceptforanyoneofthemselves’culture,therefore,isthe’know-how’thatapersonmustposestogetthroughthetaskofdailyliv
6、ing.”Onelong-standingclaimconcerningtherelationshipbetweenlanguageandcultureisthatthestructureofalanguageviewstheworldandtheconceptofthem.ThisclaimusuallyassociateswiththelinguistEndwardSapirandhisstudentBenjaminLeeWhorf.Whorfianhypothesisiswidelyadoptedby
7、linguistsallovertheworld.Sapiracknowledgedthecloserelationshipbetweenlanguageandculture,maintainingthattheywereinextricablyrelatedsothatyoucouldnotunderstandorappreciatetheonewithoutaknowledgeoftheother:Humanbeingdonotliveintheobjectiveworldalone,noralonei
