3、similardevices.InthiscontextwepresenthowZigbeemeetsourrequirementsforbandwidth,power,securityandmobility.Wehaveexaminedthedatathroughputsforvariousmedicaldevices,therequirementofdatafrequency,securityofpatientdataandthelogisticsofmovingpatientswhileconnectedt

4、odevices.ThepaperdescribesanewtestedarchitecturethatallowsthisdatatobeseamlesslyintegratedintoaUserInterfaceorHealthcareInformationSystem(HIS).Thedesignsupportsthedynamicadditionofnewmedicaldevicestothesystemthatwerepreviouslyunsupportedbythesystem.Toachievet

5、his,thehardwaredesigniskeptgenericandthesoftwareinterfacefordifferenttypesofmedicaldevicesiswelldefined.ThesedevicescanalsosharethewirelessresourceswithothertypesofsensorsbeingdevelopedinconjunctiononthisprojectsuchaswirelessECG(Electrocardiogram)andPulse-Oxi

6、metrysensors.MANYdevicesthatexisttodaybythebedsideinthehospitalward,intensivecareunitorotherclinicalsettinghavedataoutputfeaturesoverserialportsandothertypesofinterfacessuchasUSB.Thesedevicesareusuallyconsideredasignificantinvestmentandareusuallypurchasedinan

7、adhocfashionasrequiredwhenfinancebecomesavailable.Theconsequenceofthisisthatdevicesareoftenfromdifferentmanufacturersthatdon’tsupportanystandardprotocol.Thiscanmakeintegratingthesedevicesintoasinglenetworkdifficult.InthehospitalwardVitalSignsmonitors,Ventilat

8、orsandInfusionPumpsofmanydifferentbrandsareusuallyportableandwheeledfrompatienttopatientasrequired.Bynetworkingthesedevicesthehospitalgainsalltheadvantagesassociatedwithstoringpatientdata
