3、onmentwithauniversalgoali.e.，tobecomeIntelligentBuilding(So，WongandWong1999).Fromthepasttwentyyears，therehasbeenmanyIBdefinitionsfromChina，EuropeAmerica，Japan,etc.sadlyallthesedefinitionsweretooindistinctforengineeringdesignapplicationsandarchitecture，thuscouldnothelpinthegr

4、owthofthisbranchofcountryindustry.Hence，inthepastdecade,anewdefinitionwasdevelopedatfirstforAsia.Thebeautyofthisdefinitionisthat,inspiteofitsAsianoriginitcanbeappliedtodifferenttypesofbuildingsallovertheworld.ThisdefinitionwaslateronadaptedbyAsian.InstituteofIntelligentbuild

5、ings(AIIB)asanofficialdefinitionandthuscanbeformulatedasfollows:“AnIBisdesignedandconstructedbasedonanappropriateselectionofqualityenvironmentmodulestomeettheusersrequirementsbymappingwiththeappropriatebuildingfacilitiestoachievelongtermbuildingvalue”(AIIBcitedinsoandWong200

6、2).Inthischapter，wewilldiscussaboutthehistoryofIB，stateofartinIBi.e.，-whytheintelligentbuildingsareuniqueandsophisticatedandimpactofdifferentintelligentbuildingsystems.2.2HistoricalOverviewTheearlymodelsofIBwerenotascomplexasthepresentone.Infact，someoftheearlierbuildingsearn

7、edthenameIntelligentbefore1980s，becausetheywereslightlymorethanconvectionalbuildingswithmoresustainablefeatures(Deo2004).ThoughthetermIBoriginatedinearly1980s,itbecamearealityonlyintheyear1983withtheinaugurationofHartfordbuildinginUnitedStatesofAmerica.ThistermIBwasusedattha
