2、ucationinthedevelopmentofEstoniansociety.Theneedforlife-longlearningisgenerallyunderstoodandeansfortheeducationalsystemasaandsitsetupfortheuniversitymanagementandeveryteacher,everylearnerneedsstillfurtherinterpretation.Besidesthetraditionalgoalsofpromotingacademicscholarshipandrese

3、arch,theUniversityofTartuhasstatedathirdmissionforitsactivities:providingfortheneedsofthesociety.Thisinvolvesfosteringlife-longlearning,includingcontinuingeducationforuniversitygraduates,ICT-basedlearninginpart-timedegreestudiesandprofessionaldevelopmentcourses.Asotherssocalleddual

4、modeuniversitiesembers,lackofputer-skillsandfacilitiesofsomestudents,shortageofadditionalresourcesfortechnologicaldevelopment,etc.DealingstheUniversityofTartuhasconductedseveralresearchesamongthestudentsandteacherstofindoutthemajorobstaclesandpossiblesolutions.Inthefolloostimportan

5、tfindings.ICT-basedteaching–challengesfortheacademicstaffThetasktodevelopICT-basedteachingsetsupamajorchallengefirstofallfortheuniversityteachers.Asitisinmostresearchuniversities,thefacultymembersareappointedandevaluatedprimarilyonthebasesoftheresultoftheirresearchinterestsandrecor

6、d,andfehavegotanyspecialtraininginteachinggenerally,nottotalkaboutICT-basedteachingortrainingofadults.“Theproblemisthatteachingethingthatcaneasilybepickedupalongtheethingtobedoneoffthesideofthedeskoreimportantortime-consumingactivitiessuchasresearch.Itshouldbeapparentbynoemajorchan
