1、AbstractCultureteachinginEnglishLanguageTeaching(ELT)hasalwaysbeensusceptibletopoliticalandsocialinfluence.Itshouldrespondtothedirectionofsocietyprogress.Inhistory,cultureteachinghasexperiencedthreetrendsintheworld.Theyare:explicitculturalstudies,communicativelanguageteachingandinterculturalco
2、mmunication.Influencedbythethreetrendsintheworld,cultureteachingandresearchinChinahasalsomadegreatimprovementinrecentyears.Intheeraofglobalization,withthetrendofculturaldiversityandEnglishglobalization,cultureteachinginELTshouldmeettheneedsofthesociety.Byconductinganempiricalsurveyoncurrentcul
3、tureteaching,thewriterfindsoutthatcurrentmodelsofcultureteachingarenoteffectiveincultivatingstudents’interculturalcommunicationcompetenceandtheirpersonality.Therefore,cultureteachingneedstobeimprovedinthefollowingaspects:teachingobjective,teachingcontent,teachingmethods,etc.Then,thewriterpropo
4、sesthatthegoalofcultureteachingshouldbethedevelopmentofinterculturalcommunicationcompetence.Theultimategoalofcultureteachingistoachievetheinterculturalpersonhood.Inordertoachievethegoals,thisthesisproposesteachingculturethroughtwoaspects:overtaspectofcultureteachingandcovertaspectofcultureteac
5、hing.Byovertaspectofcultureteaching,wemeananintroductionofinternationaltargetculturesandtheteachingofcommunicationskills.Covertaspectofcultureteachingfocusesonstudents’personalityconstructionandculturalcreativity.Inthisaspect,valuesystem,thinkingpatterns,individualcreativityandapowerforchangea
