3、ththepresent-at-handattitudeislikeascientistoratheoristwhoismerelyobservingorstudyingsomethinginordertotheorizeaboutit.Forexample,IamsittingbeforeacomputerandIamtryingtolookingatitandstudyingitsstructure.However,IamnotascientistoncomputerandIamusingthecomputertotypemyas
4、signment.So,Iamnotholdtheattitudeofpresent-at-hand.Actually,nowIholdtheotherone,ready-to-handwithwhich,oneonlyusessomethingforachievinghispurposewithouttheorizing.Thesetwowaysofdealingwiththingsmademereflectmyattitudeinlearning.Usually,whenIreadabook,Ipaymuchattentionto
5、thecontentitselfandseldomrelateittomyownlife.Thatmeans,Itakereadingaspresent-at-handratherthanready-to-hand.Iamnotgoodatbuildingabridgebetweenthedescriptionsinthebookwithmycareinmylife.Infact,inourdailylife,“weareusuallydoingthingswithaviewtoachievingsomething”rathertha
6、ntodoingresearchonthingsthemselves.Therefore,learningshouldbeinserviceforusing.Whenwecanusesomethingtoldinthebooktoreachourgoalormeetourneedsuccessfully,suchathingcanbecomearealtruthforus,becausewealreadyknowthattruthwhichisoftendependondifferenttime,placeandperson,isre
7、lativeinPragmatismofJames.Onlybyrelatingthingsinthebooktoourreallifeandtestingitandthenacceptitasatruthoutofourheart,canwesaythatthebookofferusgreathelpinourlife.That’stherealaimoflearningIthinkandthat’salsowhatIneedtoworkhard.
