3、value)increasedby10.5%to$17.3trillion(JETROestimate)comparedwiththepreviousyearandsawpositivegrowthforthefirsttimeinthreeyears.Inparticular,growthincommodity-relatedproducts,reflectinganincreaseinprices,andgrowthinsemiconductor-relatedproductsresultedinremarkableincreases.Thetradevolume(
4、exportbasis)alsoincreasedby4.5%.Boththevalueandvolumeofworldtradeshoweditshighestgrowthsince2011.■Inthefirstquarterof2018,thetradevalueofgoods(from34majoreconomies)increasedbydoubledigits,at13.3%forexportsand14.6%forimportsoverthesameperiodthepreviousyear.Achainofrestrictivemeasuresontra
5、de,however,hasraisedconcernsofadownsiderisk.■In2017,Japan’sexportamountedto$697.2billion,up8.2%,whileimportsalsoincreasedby10.5%to$671.0billionfromthepreviousyear.Thisremarkablegrowthtrendresultedinincreasingthetradesurplus($26.3billion)forthesecondconsecutiveyear.Exportsofgeneralmachine
6、rysuchassemiconductormanufacturingequipmentwereespeciallystrong,withtherecoveryofglobalinvestment.uForeigndirectinvestment(FDI)■Japan’soutwardFDIin2017decreasedby3.0%fromthepreviousyearto$168.6billion(onabalanceofpaymentbasis,net,flow).Thisshowsaslightdecreasefromitspeakin2016,butitstill
