3、oundforacoherentfieldcalled‘reflexivehistoricalsociology’.Thisfieldcarriesauniquepotentialforunderstandingthemoderncondition.Thebookconsistsoftwomainparts.ThefirstreconstructsthethemesanddynamicsofthelifeworksofElias,Voegelin,BorkenauandMumfordusinganewmet
4、hoddevelopedbySzakolczaifortheunderstandingofauthors.Thesecondpartexploresthe‘visions’ofmodernitycontainedintheirbest-knownworks,andthoseofWeberandFoucault.Itisarguedthatthesevisionsandinterpretationsofmodernitycanbebroughttogetherintheconceptof‘permanentl
