3、tion,andshipment.Themanufacturingengineerisresponsiblefortheexpenditureoflargesumsofmoneyfortoolingandmachinerytokeepproductiononacompetitivebasis.Henotonlyshouldbefamiliarwiththetheoreticalaspectsoffabrication,butalsomustbeabletoworkoutpractical“bread
4、andbutter”problemsoftheproductionfloor.Afewoftheareasinwhichamanufacturingengineercanbeexpectedtoworkareinplanningprocesslayouts,plantlayout,equipmentspecification,materialspecification,tooldesign,methodsdevelopment,workstandards,valueanalysis,andcostc
5、ontrol.Asthemanufacturingengineergainsexperience,andifhehasahighdegreeofcreativityandinnovativeability,hecanexpecttobeinvolvedinthegenerationofmanufacturingsystemconcepts.Hewillalsobeinvolvedinthedevelopmentofnovelandspecializedequipment,researchintoth
6、ephenomenaoffabricatingtechnologies,andmanufacturingfeasibilitystudiesofproposednewproducts.Notalloftheinnovationsthatincreaseefficiencyofmanufactureareintheareaofmachinetools,inspection,orautomatedassemblyperse.Increasingemphasiswillbeinthechallengeof
