4、ngandFinanceDublinInstituteofTechnologyAbstractThispaperdiscussesaprojectcarriedoutwiththirtysixfinalyearundergraduatestudents,studyingtheBachelorofScienceinBusinessandManagementandtakingthemoduleSmallBusinessManagementduringtheacademicyear2012and2013inDublinInstituteofTechnology.Th
5、eresearchhadtwoseparateobjectives,1)toengageinactivelearningbyhavingstudentsworkonaconsultingprojectingroupsforareallifebusinessand2)toimprovestudentlearning.TheSmallBusinessManagementpreviouslyhadagroupassignmentthatwastochooseanarticlerelatedtoentrepreneurshipandcriticitandpresent
6、ittotheclass.Anecdotally,fromstudentfeedback,itwasfeltthatthisprocessdidnotengagestudentsandalsodidnotcontributetothekeycompetenciesnecessaryinordertobeanentrepreneur.Thedesirewasforstudentsonsuccessfulcompletionofthismoduletohavebetterunderstoodhowbusinessisconductedandequipthemwit
7、hcoreskillssuchasinnovation,criticalthinking,problemsolvinganddecisionmaking.Studentbuyinwasachievedbygettingthestudentstoselecttheirowngroupsandalsoworkoutbetweeneachgroupfromaonepagebriefprovidedbythebusinesseswhichbusinesstheywouldliketoworkwith.Itwasimportantforthebusinessestoal
8、sofeeltheirtimespentwithstudentswasworthwhilesotheywerepresentedwithareportfromthestudentsattheendofthetwelveweeksandinvitedintotheCollegetohearthepresentationsfromstudents.Studentswereaskedtoprovideareflectionontheirthreekeylearningpointsfromtheassignmentandtoanswerspecificquestion
