3、iedonnotsimplybecauseoftheskillorvisionofthoseinhighoffice,butbecauseWethePeoplehaveremainedfaithfultotheidealsofourforbearers,andtruetoourfoundingdocuments.Soithasbeen.SoitmustbewiththisgenerationofAmericans.Thatweareinthemidstofcrisisisnowwellunderstood.O
4、urnationisatwar,againstafar-reachingnetworkofviolenceandhatred.Oureconomyisbadlyweakened,aconsequenceofgreedandirresponsibilityonthepartofsome,butalsoourcollectivefailuretomakehardchoicesandpreparethenationforanewage.Homeshavebeenlost;jobsshed;businessesshu
5、ttered.Ourhealthcareistoocostly;ourschoolsfailtoomany;andeachdaybringsfurtherevidencethatthewaysweuseenergystrengthenouradversariesandthreatenourplanet.Thesearetheindicatorsofcrisis,subjecttodataandstatistics.Lessmeasurablebutnolessprofoundisasappingofconfi
6、denceacrossourland-anaggingfearthatAmerica’sdeclineisinevitable,andthatthenextgenerationmustloweritssights.TodayIsaytoyouthatthechallengeswefacearereal.Theyareseriousandtheyaremany.Theywillnotbemeteasilyorinashortspanoftime.Butknowthis,America-theywillbemet
