"TheprocesswillbeinspiredbytraditionalItalianfood.Itwillevoketheflavorsandcolorsofourlandandourfood,whichishomely,genuine,butalsorichandbeautiful,"saidFormigoni.InLombardy'scountryside,innovationandtraditionmergethroughnewpracticesinthefarmingindustry.ThishaspropelledtheregiontotheforefrontofagriculturalproductioninEurope.OfficialstatisticsbyLombardyofficialsshowthat60,000farmsintheregionemployinnovativetechnologiestocultivateavarietyofcrops,whileabout8,000agro-foodcompaniesproduceandexporttheirproductsallovertheworld."Wewillexaminetradition,creativityandinnovationinthebusinessoffoodinthesamemannerthattheExpo2010Shanghaiexploredurbanandcitylife,"saidFormigoni.Eachnationwillhaveadistinctspacewheretheycanshowtheiragriculture,technology,foodresearch,andareasofexcellenceinthefoodproductionchain,aswellasparadigmsandcontradictionsinherenttothesphereoffood.Sixmonthsofconcerts,exhibitionsandculturaleventswillbringtouristsclosertoMilananditslandmarks,suchasLaScalaTheater,LaTriennaleMuseumandthecanalsofitsNaviglidistrict.Partofthetheme-"FeedingthePlanet"-indicatesthat,beyondthehedonisticaspectofconsuminggoodfood,liestheimportantaspectoffoodsafety.Thisincludestheneedforqualitycertification.ItalywantstocontinueusingsustainabilityasthekeywordforExpo2015,accordingtoBeniaminoQuintieri,commissionergeneraloftheItalyPavilion."ThereisacommonthreadthatrunsbetweenExpo2010andExpo2015,unitinginasingle,grandsensethedialoguebetweenpeoples:findingforallofhumanityapaththatissustainableandenvironmentallyfriendly,"hesaid.Over50countrieshavealreadyapproachedMilanaboutjoiningtheExpo,butofficialagreementscannotbesignedbeforeNov23."TheconstructionoftheExpoGardenwillbeginlatenextyear.We'reexpectingtosealagreementswith150countriesforExpo2015Milanandreceive20millionvisitors,"saidFormigoni.
