4、Researchersfromdiversebackgroundsareconvergingontheviewthathumanevolutionhasbeenshapedbygene–cultureinteractions.Theoreticalbiologistshaveu
5、sedpopulationgeneticmodelstodemonstratethatculturalprocessescanhaveaprofoundeffectonhumanevolution,andanthropologistsareinvestigatingculturalpracticesthatmodifycurrentselection.Thesefindingsaresupportedbyrecentanalysesofhumangeneticvariation,whichrevealthathundredsofgeneshav
6、ebeensubjecttorecentpositiveselection,ofteninresponsetohumanactivities.Here,wecollatethesedata,highlightingtheconsiderablepotentialforcross-disciplinaryexchangetoprovidenovelinsightsintohowculturehasshapedthehumangenome.Accountsofhumanevolutionfrequentlyassumethatadultlactos
7、etolerance12,13,15,16.Estimatesforthenumbertheselectiveeventsthatshapeduswerechangesintheofhumangenesthathavebeensubjecttorecentrapidexternalenvironment,stemmingfromeventsbeyondevolutionrangefromafewhundredtotwothousand:humancontrol.Forinstance,theoriesoftheinceptionofWillia
