2、omaster.Readingabilityisnowoneofthemostimportantmeasuresinevaluatingone'slanguageproficiency.Withtheglobalizationofbusinessandinformation,L2readinghasreceivedmoreinterestthaneverbefore.IncollegeentranceexaminChina,readingteststake70outof150,whichnearlyaccountsforhalfofthe

3、totalscore.Thushowtoimprovetheefficiencyofreadingclassesisbecomingthecommonconcernofbothin-serviceteachersaswellaslanguageresearchers.ThestudyexploresintorealclassroompracticesinreadinginseniorhighschoolofChina.Viewsofteachersandstudents,obtainedviainterviewsandquestionna

4、iresarealsoconsideredinanalyzingreadingclasses.Thestudyaimstopresentflawsofcurrentreadinginstruction,underthediscussionofreadingtheoriesandreadinginstructionstrategies,soastoofferpedagogicalimplicationforL2teaching.Thedataanalysisoftheclassroomobservationshowsthatreadingc

5、lassesdosharecommonfeatures,whichfurtherrevealstheproblemsofthecurrentEnglishreadinginstructionasfollows:1.overemphasisonactivatingbottomlevelprocessingskills;2.lackofattentiontoactivatingpriorbackgroundknowledge;3.improperwaysofvocabularyteaching;4.littleinstructiononrea

6、dingstrategy;5.simplifiedmethodsofincreasingreadingrate;6.noactivitiesofverifyingstrategy;7.noawarenessofevaluatingprogress.Datafrominterviewsandquestionnairesrevealtwocontradictionsinthereadingpractice,namelythecontrastbetweenstudents'needsandteachers'instruction;andthei

7、ncompatibilitybetweenteachers'beliefsandinstructioninreading&theoreticalandpedagogicalframework.Besides,interviewshelpbetterunderstandtheclassroomdata,andprovideanopportunitytoknowmoreaboutteachers'intentionofclassroomactivityarrangement,theirviewsonreadingrelatedissues,a
