2、directlimitsontheHiggsbosonmassfromtrivialityarguments,vacuumstability,andprecisionelectroweakmea-surementsarepresented.Ane ectiveLagrangian,validwhenthereisnolowmassHiggsboson,isusedtodiscussthephysicsofastronglyinteractingelectroweaksymmetrybreakingsector.Finally,theHiggsbosonsofthem

3、inimalsupersymmet-ricmodelareconsidered,alongwiththeresultingdi erencesinphenomenologyfromtheStandardModel.1IntroductionThesearchfortheHiggsbosonhasbecomeamajorfocusofallparticleac-celerators.Inthesimplestversionoftheelectroweaktheory,theHiggsbosonservesbothtogivetheWandZbosonstheirmas

4、sesandtogivethefermionsmass.Itisthusavitalpartofthetheory.Intheselectures,wewillintroducetheHiggsbosonoftheStandardModelofelectroweakinteractions.1;2Section2containsaderivationoftheHiggsmechanism,withparticularattentiontothechoiceofgauge.InSection3wediscussindirectlimitsontheHiggsboson
