2、TMC)hasbeenworkingonthedevelopmentoffuelcellsystemtechnology.TMCisdesigningprincipalcomponentsin-house,includingfuelcellstacks,high-pressurehydrogenstoragetanksystems,andhybridsystems.TMCdevelopedthe’02modelTOYOTAFCHV,theworld-firstmarket-readyfuelcellvehicle,andstar

3、tedlimitedleaseofthevehiclesin2002.In2005,TMCdevelopedanewmodelofTOYOTAFCHVwhichobtainedvehicletypecertificationinJapan,andiscurrentlyavailableforleasing.TMChasimprovedthecruisingrangeandcoldstart/drivecapabilityoftheTOYOTAFCHV,andconductedpublicroadteststoevaluateth

4、eperformance.TheimprovedTOYOTAFCHVsuccessfullytraveledfromOsakatoTokyo(approximately560km,350miles)onasinglefuelingofhydrogen.Inaddition,thecoldweathertestscarriedoutinHokkaidoandNorthAmericahaveverifieditsstarting/drivingcapabilityatsubfreezingtemperaturesincluding-

5、37°C.lthoughmanyobstaclesremaintowardscommercializationoffuelcellvehicles,TMCiscommittedtoovercometheobstacles.ThispaperdescribesTMC'sapproachestowardsolvingthechallengesofcruisingrangeandcoldstart/drivecapability.INTRODUCTIONSeveralissuesmustbesolvedbeforesustai

6、nablemobilitycanbeachieved.Especially,theissuesofenergysupplyanddemandandthecarbondioxide(CO2)emissionsarecrucial.Consideringthatmostofthecurrentvehiclesrelyonoil,TMCismakingeffortstodevelopvarioustechnologiestosolvetheissues.Fuelcelltechnologyisoneofthemostpromising
