2、tetimeseriesdatasets.StudentsaregivenMonteCarlodatasetsandareaskedtochooseoneoffourmodelstodescribethedata.Thedecisiontreetakesthestudentthroughvariouspre-testproceduresthathelpthestudentchooseacorrectmodel.TheconstructionoftheMonteCarlodatasetsandhowtheycanbeobtainedfr

5、renowmanymore“rulesandregulations”thatthestudentmustpayattentiontowhenproperlymodelingmultipletimeseries.ThispaperoutlinesamethodthatIhavesuccessfullyusedinteachingmultipletimeseriesmodeling.NumerousMonteCarlobivariatetimeseriesdatasetsaregeneratedthatexhibitmany,butcer

6、tainlynotall,ofthepossiblecharacteristicsofrealworldtimeseriesdata.StudentsarethenaskedtoanalyzetheirindividualMonteCarlobivariatetimeseriesanddetermineanappropriatemodelrepresentationofthedata.Ofcoursethestudentsdonotknowthetruedatageneratingprocess.Oncestudentsanalyze

7、theirindividualizedMonteCarloseriesandcommittoaspecificmodel,theyaretoldwhethertheyarecorrectornot.Iftheirrepresentationofthedataiscorrect,theyreceivepositivefeedbackandgainconfidenceintheirmodelingskills.Ontheotherhand,iftheirchosenrepresentationisincorrecttheyaretoldw
