3、peciallyintheformofdomainspecificlanguagesubsets,areincreasinglyusedforsoftwaresystemsmodeling.AresearchhypothesisinvestigatedtosomeextentinthisthesisisifEOOlanguagescanbesuccessfullygeneralizedalsotosupportsoftwaremodeling,thusaddressingwholeproductmodeling,
4、andifintegratedenvironmentsforsuchageneralizedEOOlanguagetoolsupportcanbecreatedandeffectivelyusedonreal-sizedapplications.However,creatingadvanceddevelopmentenvironmentsisstillaresource-consumingerror-proneprocessthatislargelymanual.Onerathersuccessfulapproa
5、chistohaveageneralframeworkkernel,andusemeta-modelingandmeta-programmingtechniquestoprovidetoolsupportforspecificlanguages.Thus,themaingoalofthisresearchisthedevelopmentofameta-modelingapproachanditsassociatedmeta-programmingmethodsforthesynthesisofmodel-driv
6、enproductdevelopmentenvironmentsthatincludessupportformodelingandsimulation.Suchenvironmentsincludecomponentslikemodeleditors,compilers,debuggersandsimulators.ThisthesispresentsseveralcontributionstowardsthisvisioninthecontextofEOOlanguages,primarilytheModeli
7、calanguage.Existingstate-of-thearttoolssupportingEOOlanguagestypicallydonotsatisfyalluserrequirementswithregardstoanalysis,management,querying,transformation,andconfigurationofmodels.Moreover,toolssuchasmodel-compilerstendtobecomelargeandmonolithic.Ifinsteadi
