5、rtheturn-offprocess.Thusthetechnologyreliesonthepresenceofanacvoltageinthenetworkforthecommutationprocess,andisknownaslinecommutatedconverter(LCC)HVDCtechnology.InthisreportitwillbereferredtoasLCCHVDC.ThistechnologyisstillusedextensivelyforHVDCtransmission.LCCHVDCschemesinstalledbytheendof2004have

6、atotalratinginexcessof60GW,withmorebeingaddedeachyear.Theuseofvoltagesourcedconvertersfordcpowertransmission(VSCTransmission)wasintroducedwiththecommissioningin1997ofthe3MW,+/-10kVdctechnologydemonstratoratHellsjön,Sweden.VSCTransmissionenablesreliableandcontrollablepowertransferbetweennetworks.In
