2、ngandlearninghasshiftedfromtheteachers’teachingtothestudents’learning.InChina,EducationMinistryhassetthemaingoalofEnglishteachingandlearningas“developingthestudents’autonomousEnglishlearning”intheNewEnglishCourseStandardfortheBasicEducationStage.ThustheEng
3、lishteacher’sresponsibilityshouldconcentrateoncultivatingstudents’abilityoflearningautonomy,andhelpingstudentsbecomeconsciousofhowtolearneffectively.Withteachers’help,studentscanformappropriatelearninghabits,graspadequatelearningabilitiesbythemselvesandlay
4、solidbasefortheirlifelonglearning.However,thestatusquoofteachingandlearninginChinais“time-consumingwithloweffectivenessproducing”,whichresultsfromlackofcompetentteachers,andrelevantefficientteachingcontext.Manyteachersteachaswhatwastaught.Newideasaren’tbro
5、ughtforthwhenteacherstrytheirbesttoteachstudentsunderanon-productiveteachingconceptionandintheirownself-centeredstyle.NotonlystudentsandtheirparentsbutalsotheteachersthemselvesoveremphasizetheresultsofexaminationsbutneglectactualdevelopmentinEnglishability
6、onthepartofstudents.Inmiddleschool,Englishteachingstillfocusonteachers’teachingratherthanstudents’learning.Itignoresthestudents’individualdifferencesandthusproducesonlypassivelearners,andineffectiveteachingandlearning.Tobetterthissituation,thebestwayavaila
7、bleistofocusonstudents’learningsincethestudentsthemselvescaninanycasecarryoutalllearning.ThismeansthatstudentsshouldbethemajorconcerninclassroomteachingandlearningandthefocusofEnglishteachingshouldshiftfromtheteacherstothemselves.Autonomyreferstotheability
