2、AbstractSomeexpressionsofthe[‘you’(tohave)+abarenoun]structurelosetheirgrammaticallegitimacywhentheyaremodifiedbytheadverb‘hen’(very)toshowemphasisonthedegree.Different[‘(hen)you’+abarenoun]expressionsgivecontrastingreadingsonthe“stage-level”or“object-level.
3、”ThephenomenoninMandarinisassumedcloselyrelatedtothesemantictypesofnounsusedinthestructure.Inthispaper,nounsaredividedintoseveralcategoriesandsub-categoriesaccordingtotheirdifferentkindsofreferences:people,objects,materials;personalcharacteristics;(mental)st
4、ates;physicalproblems;andthoughtsandevents.Byapplyingeach(sub)-categorytothe[‘(hen)you’+abarenoun]structure,itisfoundthattheco-occurrenceof‘hen’and‘you’isallowedonlyinpersonalcharacteristicsand(mental)statessub-categories.Anapplicationofthenotionof“accumulat
