3、beenshowntobethelargestsourceofdimensionalerrorsandapparentnonrepeatabilityofmachines.Therefore,forthehighestprecisionmachineson-linetemperaturemonitoringandcontrolisofparamountimportance.ThispaperdescribestheapplicationofautomaticsupervisiontechniquesappliedtotheNIONdiamondturningandgrindingma
4、chine,developedbyCranfieldPrecisionEngineeringLimited,whichisthemostaccuratemachinetool,ofitssize,currentlyavailable,aswellasanultraprecisionfive-axisgrindingmachine,builtinJapanbytheToyodaMachineWorksLimited.Inaddition,followingaprojectatCranfieldUniversity,thebenefitsofon-linemeasuringtechniq
5、uesarediscussedinobtainingnewcosteffectivemanufacturingmethodsforproducingaero-engineturbineblades.Furtherexamplesaregiven,includingmajorprojectsatLiverpoolJohnMooresUniversityandEindhovenUniversityofTechnology,wheresignificantimprovementsinaccuracycapabilitieswereobtainedforastandardcylindrica
