2、recastcouplingbeamsarepresented.Eachcouplingbeamhadaspanlength-to-depthratio()of1.7,andwasdesignedtocarryashearstressof.Onereinforcedconcretecouplingbeamwasincludedalongwiththreestrain-hardening,High-PerformanceFiberReinforcedConcrete(HPFRC)couplingbeamstoallowacom
3、parisonoftheirbehavior.Whensubjectedtoreversinglateraldisplacements,thesystembehavedinahighlyductilemannercharacterizedbyexcellentstrengthretentiontodriftsof3%withoutappreciablepinchingofthelateralloadvs.drifthysteresisloops.Thereinforcedconcretestructuralwallsshow
4、edanexcellentdamagetoleranceinresponsetopeakaveragebaseshearstressesof.Thispaperpresentstheobserveddamagepatternsinthecouplingbeamsandthestructuralwalls.Therestrainingeffectprovidedbythestructuralwallstodamage-inducedlengtheningofthecouplingbeamsisdiscussedandcompa
