4、mberleavesofdifferentdevelopmentalstageswereinvestigatedbymeansoftransmissionelectronmicroscopytounderstandthesitesforlipiddropletscausedbyleafsenescence.Someplastidiallipiddropletsinsenescentleavesweredemonstratedtoundergodegradationinsidechloroplasts.Degradationbeganfromonesideandthenexpandedt
5、otheother.Inthecytoplasmsomecytosoliclipiddropletswerefoundtobeattachedtothesurfaceofchloroplasts,indicatingthattheiroccurrencemighthaveacloserelationtochloroplasts.Somecytosoliclipiddropletsrevealedacloseassociationwithvacuoles,indicatingthattheywereonthepathwaytobetransportedintothevacuoles.Li
6、piddropletsunderwentdegradationaftertheyweretransportedintovacuoles.Apparently,cucumberleafsenescencecausedin-situdegradationofplastidiallipiddropletsandvacuolardegradationofcytosoliclipiddroplets.Theseobservationsprovedthatvacuolesarenottheonlysiteforthedegradationoflipiddroplets.Keywords:Cucum
