5、ownasafamousEnglishlinguistandtranslationtheorist.HewasborninEdinburgh,Scotland,onMarch26,1917.HefinishedhiseducationsuccessivelyinEdinburghRoyalSeniorHighScholl,EdinburghUniversity(1935-39)andmajoredinFrenchlinguisticandliterature.AfterWorldWarII,hesoughtforMaster’sdegreeintheUniversi
