2、Itisatypeoftransmissionthatsiftsitself.Afluidcouplingortorqueconverterisusedinsteadofamanuallyoperatedclutchtoconnectthetransmissiontotheengine.Therearetwobasictypesofautomatictransmissionbasedonwhetherthevehicleisrearwheeldriveorfrontwheeldrive.Onarearwheel

3、drivecar,thetransmissionisusuallymountedtothebackoftheengineandislocatedunderthehumpinthecenterofthefloorboardalongsidethegaspedalposition.Adriveshaftconnectsthetransmissiontothefinaldrivewhichislocatedintherearaxleandisusedtosendpowertotherearwheels.Powerfl

4、owonthissystemissimpleandstraightforwardgoingfromtheengine,throughthetorqueconverter,thentroughthetransmissionanddriveshaftuntilitreachesthefinaldrivewhereitissplitandsenttothetworeartransmission.Onafrontwheeldrivecar,thetransmissionisusuallycombinedwiththef

5、inaldrivetoformwhatiscalledatransaxle.Theengineonafrontwheeldrivecarisusuallymountedsidewaysinthecarwiththetransaxletuckedunderitonthesideoftheenginefacingtherearofthecar.Frontaxlesareconnecteddirectlytothetransaxleandprovidepowertofrontwheels.Inthisexample,

6、powerfloesfromtheengine,throughthetorqueconvertertoalargerchainthatsendsthepowerthrougha180degreeturntothetransmissionthatisalongsidetheengine.Fromthere,thepowerisroutedthroughthetransmissiontothefinaldrivewhereitissplitandsenttothetwofrontwheelsthroughthedr
