2、hNorris.AlexanderNorris,theirfather-in-law,calledameetinginwhichhepersuadedhisnewsons-in-lawtobecomebusinesspartners.OnOctober31,1837,asaresultofthesuggestion,Procter&Gamblewasborn.someimportanteventsIn1858–1859,salesreached$1million.Bythispoint,approximate
3、ly80employeesworkedforProcter&Gamble.DuringtheAmericanCivilWar,thecompanywoncontractstosupplytheUnionArmywithsoapandcandles.Inthe1880s,Procter&Gamblebegantomarketanewproduct,aninexpensivesoapthatfloatsinwater.ThecompanycalledthesoapIvoryinthe1920sand1930s,t
4、hecompanysponsoredanumberofradioprograms.Asaresult,theseshowsoftenbecamecommonlyknownas"soapoperas".BranchingoutintonewareasThecompanybegantobuildfactoriesinotherlocationsintheUnitedStates.in1930,thecompanybegantomovedintoothercountries,bothintermsofmanufac
5、turingandproductsales.Thecompanyintroduced"Tide"laundrydetergentin1946."Prell"shampooin1947,thefirsttoothpaste"Crest"in1955,andsoon.Branchingoutonceagainin1957,thecompanypurchasedCharminPaperMillsandbeganmanufacturingtoiletpaperandotherpaperproducts.Procter
6、&Gambleacquiredanumberofothercompaniesthatdiversifieditsproductlineandsignificantlyincreasedprofits.TheseacquisitionsincludedFolgersCoffee,NorwichEatonPharmaceuticals(themakersofPepto-Bismol),Richardson-Vicks,Noxell(Noxzema),Shulton'sOldSpice,MaxFactor,andt
