3、enicrelationshipbetweenarecentlyisolatedporcinerespiratorycoronavirus(TLM83)andtransmissiblegastroenteritis(TGE)virusofswinewasstudiedbyneutralization,immunoblottingandradioimmunoassay(RIA)usingTGEvirus-specificmonoclonalantibodies(MAbs)andpolyclonalantibodiesspecificforbot
4、hviruses.Acompletetwo-wayneutralizationactivitybetweenthetwoviruseswasfound.Immunoblottingrevealedcross-reactionsbetweenTLM83andTGEvirusantigensattheleveloftheenvelopeprotein(El),thenucleoprotein(N)andthepeplomerprotein(E2).ByvirusneutralizationassaysandRIAwithTGEvirus-spec
5、ificMAbs,thepresenceofsimilarepitopesintheE1andNproteinsandintheneutralization-mediatingantigenicsiteoftheE2proteinweredemonstrated.E2protein-specificMAbs,withoutneutralizingactivityandreactingwithantigenicsitesB,CandD(previouslydefined),failedtorecognizeTLM83.Theseresultsi
6、ndicatedacloseantigenicrelationshipandstructuralsimilaritybetweenTLM83andTGEvirusesandalsosuggestedpotentialwaysofdifferentiatingbetweenthetwoviruses.Transmissiblegastroenteritis(TGE)virusofswineisamemberoftheCoronaviridaefamilyandwasisolatedforthefirsttimein1946(Doyle&Hutc
7、hings,1946).Itisaspecificenteropathogenicviruswhichreplicatesinthevillousepithelialcellsofthesmallintestineandcausesdegeneration,villousshorteninganddiarrhoea(Haelterman,1972).Replicationinthetonsilsandintherespiratorytracthasbeenreported,butappearstobesecondarytotheenteric
