2、iAbstractDemand-sidemanagement(DSM)hasacrucialroleintheattainmentofsustainableenergythataimstooptimizetheenergyutilizationandmitigateemissions.Hence,DSMenhancestheflexibilityinthepowersystemoperationandfacilitateslowcarbontransitionintheelectricitygeneration.Re
3、cently,theconventionalterminologyandstrategiesofDSMhavebeenreformedtomatchwithderegulationofenergyenvironment.Furthermore,theincreasingpenetrationofdistributedenergyresources(DERs)aswellastheadventofsmartgridshavediversifiedthetechniquesandmethodsofDSM.Thispape
4、raggregatestheexpressionsandmethodologiesaboutDSMsubjectsusedbytheliteratureandpresentsexplicitdefinitionsoftherelevantconcepts.IncontrastwithotherreviewpapersinDSMarena,thispaperproposesanoveltheoreticalframeworkwhichaimstounifytheterminology,concepts,andmodal
5、itiesassociatedwiththeliterature.AcomprehensivecategorizationofDSMstrategiesispresented,thescopesareclarified,andtherelevantmodalitiesareexplicatedtoattaintheunequivocalnessinterminology.TheevolutionofDSMaswellasstateoftheartconceptsareconsideredintheorganizati
