3、utionofreactiveoxygenspeciestothemuscularinjurycausedbythyroidhormones.Thisarticlereviewsvariousmodelsofoxidativemuscularinjuryandconsiderstherelevanceoftheaccompanyingmetabolicderangementstothyrotoxicmyopathyandcardiomyopathy,whicharethemajorcomplicationsofh
4、yperthyroidism.Themuscularinjurymodelsinwhichreactiveoxygenspeciesaresupposedtoplayaroleareischemia/reperfusionsyndrome,exercise-inducedmyopathy,heartandskeletalmusclediseasesrelatedtothenutritionaldeficiencyofseleniumandvitaminEandrelateddisorders,andgenetic
5、musculardystrophies.Thesemodelsprovideevidencethatmitochondrialfunctionandtheglutathione-dependentantioxidantsystemareim-portantforthemaintenanceofthestructuralandfunctionalintegrityofmusculartissues.Thyroidhormoneshaveaprofoundeffectonmitochondrialoxidativea
6、ctivity,synthesisanddegradationofproteinsandvitaminE,thesensitivityofthetissuestocatecholamine,thedifferentiationofmusclefibers,andthelevelsofantioxidantenzymes.Thelargevolumeofcircumstantialevidencepresentedhereindicatesthathyperthyroidmusculartissuesundergo
