4、urConanDoylein1893.HornungpublishedthepoemsBondandFreeandWoodenCrossesinTheTimes.ThecharacterofA.J.Raffles,a"gentlemanthief",firstappearedinCassell'sMagazinein1898andthestorieswerelatercollectedasTheAmateurCracksman(1899).OthertitlesintheseriesincludeTheBlackMask(1901),AThiefintheNight
5、(1905),andthefull-lengthnovelMr.JusticeRaffles(1909).Healsoco-wrotetheplayRaffles,TheAmateurCracksmanwithEugenePresbreyin1903.Hornung'sonlychild,ason,waskilledatYpresonJuly6,1915;HornungthentookupworkwiththeYMCAinFrance.HornungdiedinSt.JeandeLuz,Francein1921,sur-vivedbyhiswife.Inadditi
