2、ardependencehasbeenfoundbetweendominatesthepolarcappotential(PCP).Weargueherethat,thepolarcappotentialandthelogofULFpowerintheforBznorth,themechanismdiscussedherecompetesforsolarwindforBznorth.WeargueherethatthisisverycontrolofthePCPequallywithcuspconnectionsand,strongevi
3、dencethatAlfvénwavespropagatingfromtheatlowerlatitudes,withviscousinteraction[Axfordandsolarwindtothepolarcapdrivetwo-dimensionalHines,1961].turbulenceinagreementwithotherworkalongtheselines.[5]TherearetwoauroracharacteristicsintheBz-northpolarInbrief,two-dimensional(2-D)
4、turbulenceischaracterizedcap.Themostwell-knownisthethetaaurora[Franketal.,byaninversecascadeofenergyfromintermediatetolarge1986].Thisauroralformsplitsthepolarcapandiscollo-scales,eventuallyleadingtotwolargecounter-rotatingcatedwithanupwardfield-alignedcurrent.Cumnocketal.
5、vorticesfillingtheavailablevolumeand,wethink,creating[2002]showedthatthisarceruptsoutoftheauroralovalandtwoofthefourvorticesintheBznorthpolarcap.Inthismigratesacrossthepolarcaptoitstheta-barlocation.Thiswasmodel,theAlfvénwavescreatevelocityshearatthe500orverifiedinarocket
6、experimentinwhichconsecutiverocketssokilometerscaleassociatedwithpolarcaparcs.Thiscrossedanarcemergingoutoftheoval.Leavingsunwardenergy/vorticitytheninversecascadestofillthepolarcap.convectionequatorwardofthearc[Bergetal.,1994],thearcCitation:Kelley,M.C.,andH.-J.Kim(2012)
