1、AbstractAsanessentialpartinProcessWritingApproach,feedbackplaysacrucialroleforthestudentstoimprovetheirEnglishwritingability.However,thecurrentChineseEFLlearnersagestill,toagreatextent,relyingontheteacherfeedback,whichisoftenambiguousandineffectiveasaresultofthepr
2、esentsituationoflarge—sizeclass,tightteachingschedule,andheavyworkload.Nevertheless,peerfeedback,acomplementoftheteacherfeedback,isseldomusedinChineseEnglishclass.Inviewoftheabovesituationandtherapidincreaseincomputerizedclassroomsatuniversities,thisresearchaimsto
3、investigatetheeffectofpeerfeedbackandaproperpeerreviewmodeusedintheChineseEFLwritingclass.Seventy—twoEnglishmajorsophomoresinNanyangInstituteofTechnologytookpartintheexperiment.Questionnaires,ExcelandSPSS11.5ageusedinthisstudy.Bycomparingthethreeoften—usedpeerrevi
4、ewmodes,i.e.thetraditionalwrittenfeedback,computer—mediatedasynchronicanonymouspeerfeedback,andcomputer-mediatedasychronicreal-namepeerfeedback,theresearchrevealsthat:Firstly,theChinesecollegeEFLstudentsingeneralholdapositiveattitudetowardspeerfeedback.Theycouldno
5、tonlysincerelyandhonestlypointouttheirclassmates’mistakesoftheirwritings,butalsomodestlytaketheirclassmates’commentsintoconsiderationwhenrewriting.However,theyarepsychologicallyalittlehesitantabouttheirabilitytomakeusefulcomments,becauseupto69.4%participantsagenot
6、surewhethertheircommentsarchelpfultotheirpeersornot.Andalthough100%confessthattheylikereadingothers’articles,41.7%stateclearlythattheyd0notliketorevieworprovidecommentsforothers.Astothisphenomenon,theauthorbelievesthatithassomethingtodowiththeChinesetraditionalcul
7、tureofmodestyandcaution.Inviewofthis,itissuggestedthattheeducatorsshouldtrytostrengthentheEFLstudents’initiative,enthusiasm,andconfidencewhendoingpeerreviewactivitiesinsteadofdenyingorsuspectingitseffectiveness.Secondly,92.9%commentsagerevision—orientedinnatureand
