3、arisfearitself-nameless,unreasoning,unjustifiedterror,whichparalyzesneededeffortstoconvertretreatintoadvance.Ineverydarkhourofournationallife,aleadershipoffranknessandvigorhasmetwiththatunderstandingandsupportofthepeoplethemselves,whichisessentialtovictoryAndIa
4、mconvincedthatyouwillagaingivethatsupporttoleadershipinthesecriticaldays. Insuchaspiritonmypartandonyours,wefaceourcommondifficulties.Theyconcern,thankGod,onlymaterialthings.Valueshaveshrunkentofantasticlevels;taxeshaverisen,ourabilitytopayhasfallen,government
5、ofallkindsisfacedbyseriouscurtaiImentofincome,themeansofexchangearefrozeninthecurrentsoftrade;thewitheredleavesofindustrialenterpriselieoneveryside,farmersfindnomarketsfortheirproduce,andthesavingsofmanyyearsandthousandsoffamiliesaregone. Moreimportant,ahostof
6、unemployedcitizensfacethegrimproblemofexistence,andanequalandgreatnumbertoilwithlittlereturn.Onlyafoolishoptimistcandenythedarkrealitiesofthemoment. Andyet,ourdistresscomesfromnofailureofsubstance,wearestrickenbynoplagUeoflocusts.Comparedwiththeperilswhichourf
7、orefathersconquered,becausetheybelievedand werenotafraid,wehavesomuchtobethankfulforNaturesurroundsuswithherbountyandhuman,effortshavemultipliedit.Plentyisatourdoorstep,butageneroususeofitlanguishesintheverysightofthesupplyPrimarilythisisbecausetherulersofthee
