2、ormerHungarianMinisterofAgricultureandFood,Dr.PálRományhasplayedanactiveroleatthe20thSessionoftheFAOConferenceandsuggestedtheideaofcelebratingtheWFDworldwide.Ithassincebeenobservedeveryyearinmorethan150countries,raisingawarenessoftheissuesbehindpovertyandhunger.ThemesSince1981,WorldFoodDayha

3、sadoptedadifferentthemeeachyear,inordertohighlightareasneededforactionandprovideacommonfocus.Thethemefor2006is"Investinagricultureforfoodsecurity".Itwaschosenbecauseonlyinvestmentinagriculture–togetherwithsupportforeducationandhealth–willturnthissituationaround.Thebulkofthatinvestmentwillhav

4、etocomefromtheprivatesector,withpublicinvestmentplayingacrucialrole,especiallyinviewofitsfacilitatingandstimulatingeffectonprivateinvestment.Inspiteoftheimportanceofagricultureasthedrivingforceintheeconomiesofmanydevelopingcountries,thisvitalsectorisfrequentlystarvedofinvestment.Inparticular
