3、:Toexploretherelationshipsbetweenthedailytotalintakeoffluoride,dentalfluorosisanddentalcaries.Methods:Anepidemiologicalmethodwasusedtoinvestigatethedailytotalintakeoffluoride,dentalfluorosis,anddentalcariesamong236and290childrenaged8-13yearsinasevereendemica
4、reaandinanon-fluorosiscontrolarea,respectively.Thechildrenweredividedintoeightsubgroupsaccordingtoeachchildsestimateddailytotalintakeoffluoride.Theprevalenceofdentalfluorosisanddentalcariesineachgroupwascalculated.Results:Asexpected,elevatedlevelsoffluoridei
5、ntakeweresignificantlyassociatedwithahigherprevalenceofdentalfluorosisandanincreasingamountofmoreseveredefectdentalfluorosis.WhenthedailytotalFintakewas2.78mg/child/day,theprevalenceofdentalfluorosiswasnearly100%,withtheprevalenceofdefectdentalfluorosisincre
6、asingwithincreasingfluorideintake.Therewasalsoasignificantnegative(inverse)dose-responserelationshipbetweenthedailytotalintakeoffluorideandtheoverallpreva-lenceofdentalcaries,theprevalenceofwhichdecreasedwhenthedailytotalintakeoffluorideincreasedupto3.32mg/c
7、hild/day.However,athigherlevelsofdailytotalintakeoffluoridetheprevalenceofdentalcariesincreased,givingrisetoaU-shapeddose-responserelationshipcurve.Conclusion:Itisimportanttomonitortotalfluorideexposureandprotectchildrenfromexcessivefluorideintake,especially
