3、numbersegmentation,andplatenumberrecognition.InVLPdetectionmodule,weproposeanefficientboundaryline-basedmethodcombiningtheHoughtransformandContouralgorithm.Thismethodoptimizesspeedandaccuracyinprocessingimagestakenfromvariouspositions.Then,weusehorizontalandverticalprojectiontoseparateplate
4、numbersinVLPsegmentationmodule.Finally,eachplatenumberwillberecognizedbyOCRmoduleimplementedbyHiddenMarkovModel.Thesystemwasevaluatedintwoempiricalimagesetsandhasproveditseffectiveness(seesectionIV)whichisapplicableinrealtraffictollsystems.ThesystemcanalsobeappliedtosomeothertypesofVLPswith
5、minorchanges.I.INTRODUCTIONTheproblemofVLPrecognitionisaveryinterestingbutdifficultone.Itisveryusefulformanytrafficmanagementsystems.VLPrecognitionrequiressomecomplextasks,suchasVLPdetection,segmentationandrecognition.Thesetasksbecomemoresophisticatedwhendealingwithplateimagestakeninvarious
6、inclinedanglesorplateimageswithnoise.Becausethisproblemisusuallyusedinreal-timesystems,itrequiresnotonlyaccuracybutalsofastprocessing.MostVLPrecognitionapplicationsreducethecomplexitybyestablishingsomeconstrainsonthepositionanddistancefromthecameratovehicles,andtheinclinedangles.Bythatway,t
7、herecognitionrateofVLPrecognitionsystemshasbeenimprovedsignificantly.Inaddition,wecangainmoreaccuracybyusingsomespecificfeaturesoflocalVLPs,suchasthenumberofcharacters,thenumberofrowsinaplate,orcolorsofplatebackground,ortheratioofwidthtoheightofaplate.II
