2、D(radiofrequencyidentification),WSN(wirelesssensornetwork),etc.,havebeenproposedforcarIDidentification,LPRonimagedataisstillanindispensabletechniqueincurrentintelligenttransportationsystemsforitsconvenienceandlowcost.LPRisgenerallydividedintothreesteps:licenseplatedetection,charactersegmentationa
3、ndcharacterrecognition.ThedetectionsteproughlyclassifiesLPandnon-LPregions,thesegmentationstepseparatesthesymbols/charactersfromeachotherinoneLPsothatonlyaccurateoutlineofeachimageblockofcharactersisleftfortherecognition,andtherecognitionstepfinallyconvertsgreylevelimageblockintocharacters/symbol
4、sbypredefinedrecognitionmodels.AlthoughLPRtechniquehasalongresearchhistory,itisstilldrivenforwardbyvariousarisingdemands,themostfrequentoneofwhichisthevariationofLPstyles,forexample:(1)Appearancevariationcausedbythechangeofimagecapturingconditions.9(2)Stylevariationfromonenationtoanother.(3)Style
5、variationwhenthegovernmentreleasesnewLPformat.Wesummedthemupintofourfactors,namelyrotationangle,linenumber,charactertypeandformat,aftercomprehensiveanalysesofmulti-styleLPcharacteristicsonrealdata.Generallyspeaking,anychangeoftheabovefourfactorscanresultinthechangeofLPstyleorappearanceandthenaffe
6、ctthedetection,segmentationorrecognitionalgorithms.IfoneLPhasalargerotationangle,thesegmentationandrecognitionalgorithmsforhorizontalLPmaynotwork.IftherearemorethanonecharacterlinesinoneLP,additionallineseparationalgorithmisneededbeforeasegmentationprocess.Withthevariationofcharactertypeswhenweap
7、plythemethodfromonenationtoanother,theabilitytore-definetherecognitionmodelsisneeded.Whatismore,thechangeofLPstylesrequiresthemethodtoadjustbyitselfsothatthesegmentedandrecognizedcharactercandidatescanmatchbestwithanLP
