1、Kawasakidiseaseisararecondition.Itismostcommoninchildrenunderfiveyearsoldandmostcasesoccurinchildrenagedbetweenninemonthsandtwoyears.Casesoccurinallethnicorigins,itismorecommoninchildrenofAsianoriginandmorecommoninboysthangirls.OriginIn1967,aJapaneseallergist,ProfessorKawa
2、saki,firstdescribedanoutbreakofapeculiarillnessinyoungchildreninJapan.Oneofthepatientswashisson.Severalyearslater,afewoutbreakswerereportedinothercountriesandthedevelopmentofcoronaryvasculitiswerereported.Kawasakidiseaseoccursyear-round,butagreaternumberofcasesarereportedi
3、nthewinterandspring.AnnualincidenceratesintheUnitedStatesandCanadarangefromabout6to11casesper100,000childrenlessthanfiveyears,theincidenceratesinNorthAmericaarehighestinchildrenofAsianethnicity(especiallythoseofJapaneseorKoreanbackground).InJapan,theyearlyincidenceratewas9
4、0casesper100,000childrenlessthanfiveyears.Avarietyofinfectiousagentshavebeenproposed,however,anetiologicagenthasnotbeendocumented.TheimmunesystemisknowntobeinvolvedduringtheacutestageofKawasakidisease.Inresponsetoanunknowntriggeringprocess,markedimmunoregulatoryabnormaliti
5、esareobserved.Antibodiesmaythentargetthevascularendothelium,resultinginacascadeofeventsleadingtovasculardamage.Avarietyofinfectiousagentshavebeenproposed,however,anetiologicagenthasnotbeendocumented.TheimmunesystemisknowntobeinvolvedduringtheacutestageofKawasakidisease.Inr
