2、Scotia农业学院环境科学系ABSTRACTAstudyofcompostversusconventionally-fertilizedvegetableplotswasconductedfor12yearsinasandyloamsoilnearTruro,NovaScotia.Thefertilitytreatmentshavebeenappliedannuallytosixrotationplotsplantedwithsixtoeightdifferentvegetablecrops.Thecom
3、postsconsistofanimalmanure,foodwaste,yardwasteandstraworracetrackmanurebedding.Thispaperinvestigatedthelastyearofthestudy(2001),whichexaminedlevelsofnutrientsinsoil,leaftissue,theedibleportionoftheplant,andcropyields.Thefreshweightyieldsfromthesixplotsshow
4、edthatthecomposttreatmentresultedinnumerically,butnotsignificantly,higheryieldsforthecarrots,peppers,onionsandtomatoes,andsignificantlyhigheryieldsforgreenandyellowbeans.CauliflowerandBrusselssproutsyields,however,werehigherinthefertilizer-amendedplot.Soil
5、swithcomposthadhigherpH,CEC,C,NandMehlich-3extractablelevelsofP,Ca,Mg,Mn,ZnandBcomparedwiththefertilizedplots.However,theincreasednutrientsinthecompost-amendedsoildidnotincreasethenutrientsintheleaftissueortheedibleportionoftheplant.Ofthe16elementstested,o
6、nlyPandKwerehigherinthefertilizer-amendedplantleaftissue,whilelevelsofPweresignificantlyhigherintheedibleportionoftheplant.Thisstudydemonstratedthatthelong-termuseofcompostcanproducesimilaryieldsandelementalanalysisformostcropsincompost-amendedandconventio
7、nally-fertilizedsoils.Thispaperreportstheresultsofthe1999and2000croppingyears.Cropyieldresponsewasinconsistentbetweenthetwoamendments;yieldsoftomatoesandbroccolivariedfromyeartoyear.Thefertilizedplots,however,producedhigherbeanyieldsandnumericallyhighercar
8、rotandpepperyields,whilethecompost-amendedplotsproducedhigheronionyieldsinbothyears.。Therewerefewsignificanteffectsoftreatmentsonplanttissuecontent;onlyFeandBwerehigherintheorganically-amendedplantleavesin199
